Get a spray bottle and spray "WATER " on him when you see him scratching on somthing. just dont sray in the face. this has worked for all my cats for the exception of one. this my not stop him completely though. he may still do it when your not looking. there are things like easy to peel off double sided tape. cats dont like the feeling. you can go to a pet store and find it. they have other things that may help. it important for cats to scratch. helsp keep there claws down and is a natural behavior. make sure you DO have something for them to scratch on. a small log cut in half, so as not to roll around, is perfect. though it can get messy at first. its better then going out and buying an expensive scratch post. |

Buy or make a scratching post, preferably out of wood. Cover some of it with softer material. This will give them both what they want to scratch. When they scratch their new post praise them. Cats need to scratch and if you don't give them something to scratch they will scratch your stuff. There are also sprays available you can spray on the furniture to teach them not to scratch it. You can also buy spray on catnip to attract them to acceptable scratching stuff. |

Buy a water bottle that can be adjusted to squirt in a straight outward line of water and then nail them with it, They hate water !! I just trained both of my kittens now to scratch my furniture and this worked and I've used it before, I also yelled at them " NO', very very loud and angry, so they knew it was wrong. I'm not sure if it will work for adult cats, but it is worth a try. I also use it when the try to get on th counter or tables. and they hate the sound of the water even !! So give it a try. |
